I discovered this yesterday. As you may have noticed when you do survival you are left with the weapons you pick up until you exit GTAO or sometimes you lose them when you start a job. After survival you can literally walk around with mini guns, RPGs, etc. Well I had unlocked a couple of guns earlier in the day but was saving cash so I didn't pay the $10k+ to actually buy them. I went to do so after a survival and found the following:
I did not yet own an Assault Shotgun BUT I had one left from the survival I just finished. When I entered Ammunation, it was still in my inventory so I bought the extended magazine upgrade for it. After entering the game from single player several times and 2 or 3 complete shut downs, I still have the gun. I did this with the Carbine Rifle as well.
I also discovered that if you already own a gun and pick up a ton of ammo (sticky bombs) for instance, you get to keep the ammo for free.
Not sure if anyone knew this of if I'm late to the party but I thought I'd share. IMHO, this combined with the $20k and the 3500+ RP you get for passing makes survival a great mode to get you the cash money you need!

Now if only I could get to this high enough levels to take advantage of this.

Well, I found that races are an extremely quick way to level up. I did a bunch of races and them immediately did 3 or 4 survivals which is how i got leveled up to where i unlocked the weapon and then the attachments without having made a trip to Ammunation. Then on some, I was just saving money so I didn't want to buy the gun yet. In any case, I hope it helps!

Kinda regret buying it, as it's bolt action so it's hard to hit a moving target! I've done a few races, but I'm not really into racing too much, but yeah, I noticed that races give you a lot more RP for the time spent doing them. Survivals are extremely fun, but can be a grind if you're doing them with idiots(not my crew members, but randoms I played with), and takes quite a long time for that huge $20,000 payout.

MrUnpopular and I just cleared 2 of them and nearly a 3rd with 2 randoms. I love survival mode. He and I are planning to do some more along with some missions and stuff tonight. When I get back on I'm going to create a crew session and we're going to try to get as many people as we can to do a bunch of different game modes. It should be a ton of fun and we should get that $ & RP!

Currently trying to work out some issues with my new iPhone, plus my gf might be coming for a little while. But I think I have most of you on my PSN friends list, so I'll send some messages out if and when I'm able to play.

I think weapon mods are more expensive that weapons, so maybe that's why they allowed you to keep it? I bought ammo for something I'd picked up & still had it later, but only found out when I recollected the weapon - next time I'll upgrade it too!

I'm not sure but I did it again last night with the advanced rifle. I think the advanced rifle costs about $20k and the extended mag costs $11k I believe. I figure, you're going to have to buy the extended mag anyways, so you might as well buy the mag and not the rifle and get both

You showed me the water race as a great way to get money. I knew about the Criminal Records race for getting RP. Update: I just unlocked the Combat MG and picked one up in survival. I haven't unlocked the extended mag but I bought the color upgrade and I got to keep the rifle too. So it also works for color upgrades.

I enjoyed our Survivals tonight mate, thanks for the fun Sadly I misinterpreted this thread, and after picking up some cool stuff I went off to upgrade it - only to find them still locked out Ah well. I also picked up a Minigun, not intentionally, and was not allowed to even try firing it in the Survival, although it remained in my inventory until logout and was usable in public... Weird idea.

Yeah, you have to have unlocked the weapon and a mod for it for the trick to work. Oh well, you can just do a survival later to get them. I do them a lot because the payout is $20k and the only easier way I know of to get money quickly is a couple of races with good payouts and even then you need at least one other person who doesn't mind doing the same race over and over.

Sorry I bailed on that team match thing, but I'm no good at them & after that first death I had nothing suitable to actually destroy the cars anyway... I also felt like a fool because I hadn't banked our Survival winnings & lost half of it.

Yeah, that was weird. I just voted for that because I'd never tried that job before. It didn't say anything about it being a team match type of game until we were already in it. I didn't enjoy it very much. After you left I went out and started stealing cars on the street and crashing them into things.

Well we know for next time Larger teams would definitely help, I think playing that style 1 on 1 offers distinct disadvantages to one side!

I am level 89. I haven't done a ton of races lately so my progression has slowed down the last week or so.

After our Survivals today, I was high enough level to try modding something I hadn't bought but was finally eligible for, and it worked! So I spent what I saved on extra mods
